Akademgorodok is 20 km south from the center of Novosibirsk, on the right shore of the Ob sea. Akademgorodok is one of the major science and education centers in Russia. It is a home to dozens of research institutes, Presidium of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SB RAS) Novosibirsk State University, Physics and Mathematics School. The campus of Novosibirsk State University is also located in Akademgorodok.

The main target during the Akademgorodok construction was to preserve the local nature as much as possible. The target was well achieved and now Akademgorodok lives in the woods of taiga. Walking along Morskoi Prospekt from the center of Akademgorodok to the Ob Sea beaches will not take more than 20 minutes. August 2006 was marked with decision on creating a technopark in Akademgorodok, to provide the innovative businesses and institutions with the most up-to-date infrastructure and environment. Today it is one of the most succesful science clusters in Russia.

Another landmark of Akademgorodok is its unique atmosphere. People here are very friendly and jovial, and if you get lucky enough, you can join one of the strange but funny events that happen here all the time (Computer Mouse Throwing Contest, as one of the examples).

When you get in Akademgorodok from the busy center of the Siberian capital, it seems that you is on another planet. Green, quiet... Proud pines, inconspicuous houses, as if "growing" in the forest, and staid rhythm, prepossessing, intended by the founders of this oasis of science, to the scientific contemplation. It really is a little oasis, and it was planned very artfully - its space as if rounded: university, all the institutions and infrastructure elements are situated "in a circle" - everything is closed and everything is in a walking area. And the proximity of the Ob Sea makes this place almost resort. Walk on Akademgorodok creates a sense of that you is really somewhere in the resort area. It is hard to believe that somewhere nearby the twenty most powerful scientific research institutes of the country, and about the proximity of the largest Novosibirsk University shows only the abundance of young people on the streets.

Akademgorodok it is the special territory not only because of the scientific institutes and universities, but also due to the special, so to speak, an intelligent atmosphere. The main of the residents here are students of the NSU, scientists, laboratory technicians, teachers, descendants of the founding scientists, and highly spiritual people, in general. This atmosphere is very difficult to describe in words, it can only be felt by strolling through Akademgorodok and after talking with his friendly people.
